Credit River Valley House

This home sits on a 49-acre property north of Toronto along a tributary of the Credit River, and replaces a 1970s prefab Viceroy cabin that was suffering from structural problems and mould. The new building is a 2,000 square foot bungalow with an attached garage and a south-facing, riverfront walkout basement. With no natural gas service to the site, the house will be electrically operated with a MicroFIT solar PV array. By using advance frame construction and exterior insulation, the home will use less materials and have reduced thermal bridging compared to conventional framing. As informed by the owners' design sensibilities, the home's spatial qualities and materiality are inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's designs.
