Villa Enya is located on a one acre property close to the Credit River. Originally built in the 1980s, the home lacked both a cohesive exterior façade and direct access from the main floor to the large backyard. In addition, the building's existing envelope and mechanical systems were inefficient. The new multilevel deck and terrace were designed to support a range of new uses including a pool, hot tub and cabana, with the exterior stair allowing direct access from the main floor. The exterior façade was unified with a clean and sophisticated stucco finish.
The windows were replaced with double-glazed energy star rated units, which greatly increased the energy efficiency of the home. In addition, an exterior insulation system was applied to the face of the existing brick below the stucco, increasing the insulation values and acting as an air barrier. The attic was insulated to meet building code requirements. The steel framed deck is clad with Trex™ decking, which is composed of reclaimed lumber and recycled plastic bags. A roof mounted solar array heats the new pool.
