This artist's home and studio is located north-east of Toronto on a property with a creek and marshland. The ground floor workshop and studio accommodates stone sculpture and large scale wood-working, with large doors for bringing materials in and out and expanding the working space into the backyard in good weather. The second floor accommodates the large owner's suite with screened in porch, cathedral ceilings and a loft bedroom as well as a separate rental suite with its own south facing roof deck. The owner's suite is designed for aging-in-place, with a fully accessible bathroom and provision for stair lifts. The roof is roughed-in for solar panels, and the home is designed for maximum air-tightness and insulation. Heat is provided by radiant heating, with a wood stove linked to a supplemental boiler.
